Much of this week's energy is surrounded by healthy choices. Getting healthy is one of the hardest things we can do. Why? Because most of us have been conditioned a certain way, grown up eating certain foods (if we can even call them foods) and learning to live unhealthy lifestyles. Learning is hard enough, but unlearning seems even more difficult. The best way to go about unlearning bad habits is to take them one at a time. We'll use eating as an example.
If you're in a position where you KNOW you need to start eating more healthy foods, you're on the right track. Awareness is key to beginning any new journey. Try to remove all guilt associated with eating. Guilt is a useless emotion (for most people) and serves no purpose since the truth about eating healthy may be very different from what you think. So-called diet foods are not healthy. Anything that has ingredients you can't pronounce is not healthy. These are chemicals. The word chemicals used to scare people. Now it seems like no big deal to consume countless chemicals because they've been made to look like and taste like food.
Choose one 'chemical' to cut out of your diet. Choose something like high fructose corn syrup...which you probably can pronounce, and doesn't sound like a chemical, but it's terribly unhealthy for your body. And you'll probably be alarmed at the number of items in the grocery store that contain this ingredient. Just start reading labels and become disappointed when you can't find a single juice that doesn't contain high fructose corn syrup, or is made from concentrate. Simply Orange will do the trick. It's all natural and not terribly expensive. Leave the Gatorade alone, leave the soda alone and leave the Sunny Delight alone. It doesn't matter what you hear on commercials...you do know these people are paid to make you believe their product is the one you should buy, right?
As for high fructose corn syrup, you really will be alarmed at the number of foods that contain it. I avoid it when at all possible, but I still like to eat ketchup and bread (yes, bread contains high fructose corn syrup). It's ridiculous really, but this post is not intended to create a revolution, unless you want to start one, and then I'm your girl! But it is intended to bring about some awareness and help you to start slowly making better choices with your life.
